Scramble's Circus Story:

Nathaniel "Scramble James" Hughes started juggling in 2009 while he was attending Humboldt State University. Shortly after, he joined a group called the Humboldt Circus and was in his first circus show in the spring of 2010. A year later, in 2011, he traveled to Guatemala and worked in a Guatemalan circus for 6 weeks before returning to the United States.

In the summer of 2012, he joined the New Old Time Chautauqua and toured through the state of Oregon. That same summer he performed at the Oregon Country Fair with Humboldt Varietyville and has since been on tour with the N.O.T.C. on three other occasions through Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska.

After graduating, he moved to the San Francisco area and worked at Houdini's Magic Shop, broadening his performance skills. One year later, in 2014, he moved to Portland, Oregon. Since moving to Portland, he has performed with multiple groups including Circus Luminescence, and Flamebouyant Productions,  in addition to performing his own unique solo shows.

In the winter of 2016, he returned to Guatemala and started the country's first Circus Arts Education Program at Los Patojos School in Jocotenango, Guatemala. The program is still alive and well today, and 250 kids receive daily circus arts classes as part of their curriculum. He returned to Portland in June of 2016 and has since co-hosted the fire fire show at Pacific Fire Gathering, performed with Circus Luminescence at the Portland Juggling Festival, and continued performing his solo shows. His solo shows can include juggling, magic, music, audience interaction, fire performance, L.E.D. performance, and are perfect for corporate events, business events, anniversaries, weddings, birthday parties for all ages, children's parties, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, festivals, and house parties!
